Menorca Binibequer

The small resort town of Binibequer (or Binibeca) is situated on the south coast of the island of Menorca, about 5 miles from the capital Mahon. The town is relatively quiet and “undiscovered” compared to other parts of the island and the beaches tend to be a little bit less crowded too.
There are a few large hotels in the area, but most of the accommodation in and around Binibequer tends to be self catering apartments, or lodgings in private homes. Many British people have holiday homes in this area.

Activities in Binibeca
One of the biggest attractions in this part of Menorca is the town of Binibeca Vell, designed in 1972 by a leading Spanish architect to resemble a traditional Menorcan village. The town is a maze of narrow streets, whitewashed houses with beautiful gardens and there is even a church steeple – but no church. The picturesque streets are lined with small shops, cafes and bars.
The beaches around Binibequer are popular with families as they offer gently sloping sand and calm and shallow waters. The most popular beach is the wide beach at Cala de Binibeca which also offers sun bed and paddle boat rentals. Elsewhere there are several small sheltered coves that are perfect for swimming.

Eating and drinking in Binibeca
Most of the restaurants in and around Binibequer are small, informal and family run. Seafood and fish figure largely on many menus – much of it freshly caught that day. And don’t be surprised if your dish comes with mayonnaise – the condiment is said to have been invented on Menorca by the Duke of Richelieu as a celebration when defeating the British army in 1756.
You might not want to stay in Binibequer if you are looking for an exciting time. The area around the town appeals to people who aren’t looking for a lot of night life or lively resorts, as well as independent travelers.
