Did you know that there’s a Mississippi Bar in Cala Galdana? The owners are probably from Mississippi who decided to stay and set up shop. Who wouldn’t be tempted to make Cala Galdana a second home? Many have.
Cala Galdana lies in the south coast of Menorca, part of the municipal district of Ferreries. If you’re planning to drive yourself from the airport to Cala Galdana, make sure that your map is accurate; one writer said that the government recently changed the names of the streets in some parts of Menorca.
What strikes the visitor to Cala Galdana are the pine trees. The town is shaped like a horseshoe with pine cliffs hanging from it. To complement that scenery is the Algendar River which splits the town into two.
Cala Galdana is your typical cover girl. Writers have described it as the most beautiful place in all of Menorca; it is often photographed to grace magazine covers. It’s an ideal spot for a family vacation. Not too quiet, not too noisy. The kids will love the pizzeria toboggan, the playgrounds, water slides and a mini golf. This doesn’t mean solitary figures and couples won’t fit in. They’ll find plenty to make it worth their while.
Activities in Cala Galdana
Blue flag beach is alluring. If you plan to laze by the beach a lot just curling your toes in the sand, pile up the beach mats and umbrellas.
The main attractions are in Ferreries. The horse shows are delightful, usually held from June to September, Wednesdays and Sundays at 8:30 pm. A dazzling and colorful parade of horses and horse owners, live music and folk dancing in the evenings and fireworks await you.
Golf is available. The Club de Golf Son Parc Golf Course is a must-see; scuba divers will be pleased to know of Cala Galdana’s two diving schools: Jose Molina Diving Centre and Ulmo Diving School.
Eating and Drinking in Cala Galadana
As in most of Menorca, good seafood dining is within arm’s reach. The hotels will have buffet and a la carte, and some will cook the catch of the day right before your eyes. You may want to try the Audax Hotel, rated four-star, or the Alta Galdana, rated one-star.
Check out these restaurants: Restaurante Tornare (34-971-154-500) and here’s a Chinese restaurant if you feel like some Oriental cooking – Chino Dragon restaurant (unfortunately no number was given, but the locals can tell you how to get there). There’s also the Restaurante El Rey del Jamon (34-971-373-842).
By the end of your holiday, you’ll want to pack a box of Spanish wines after doing your rounds of Cala Galdana’s bars – not just the Mississippi Bar!
